Assistant Director, Science Diversity Office
Purdue University's College of Science is accepting resumes for the position of Assistant Director in the Science Diversity Office. The Assistant Director will have the opportunity to plan and implement programs to recruit, retain, and graduate an increasing number of underrepresented students in the College of Science, while working in a team environment. Major responsibilities will include coordination of a summer camp for pre-college students, academic year programs for undergraduate students and a graduate program for multicultural students.
Successful candidates will possess at a minimum: a Bachelor's degree; two years of professional experience in the natural, mathematical or computer sciences; or two years of professional experience in social sciences such as psychology, counseling, or education; or two years of professional experience in a diversity area such as gender studies or multicultural studies. Candidates should also possess excellent organizational, time-management and interpersonal skills; be a self-starter who can plan, monitor and meet objectives; be flexible with the ability to adjust to last-minute changes; ability to work with a diverse population in a warm, nurturing and accepting environment; and computer skills such as email, word processing, database management, and spreadsheets.
It is preferred if candidates possess a degree in one of the Natural, Mathematical or Computer Sciences OR a Social Science such as Psychology, Counseling, or Education OR a Diversity area such as Gender Studies or Multicultural Studies and/or experience and demonstrated sensitivity to issues of isolation and lack of role-models with regard to race and/or gender.
