Executive Director, Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center
Mission Statement
The mission of the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center is to preserve, promote, present and celebrate diverse cultures with special emphasis on African-American cultural heritage through artistic presentations of the highest quality, educational programming and outreach, film, and opportunities for community inclusion.

The Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center will uplift and inspire the community by being a leading American arts and cultural center informed by the African-American experience and inspired predominately by the stores of Lexington’s African-Americans.
Position
The Executive Director has the overall responsibility for the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center including development, marketing, production, programming and facilities management. The director’s responsibility and challenge will be to ensure the fulfillment of the newly renovated Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center mission as well as staying within its budgetary goals while serving user organizations and the overall community. In addition to the operational and budget responsibilities, the director will be actively involved in public relations and artistic supervision.
Duties/responsibilities would also include: Support, oversee, advise and inform the Board of organization operations and work closely with the Board to ensure the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center success. Guide and communicate the policies, goals, mission and vision to the staff and stakeholders with the Board’s approval and supervision. Plan, organize, direct, supervise and coordinate the operations and activities of the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. Responsible for supervision and oversight of business operations including preparation of a monthly board financial report as well as the annual budget; management of the box office and ticket sales systems; negotiation and execution of facility rentals and performance of other duties as required. Locate, attract and schedule the production of performances/exhibits and community events at the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center, negotiate all production contracts and agreements (for presented events and community renters). Develop a strong working relationship with the Board of Directors and work in concert with the Board on the execution of the strategic plan for the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. Provide supervision for the artistic direction of the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center. Develop and maintain positive relations with local, regional and national arts, cultural and educational organizations, and other stakeholders. Coordinate the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center activities with relevant Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government departments, community organizations and other relevant entities. Maintain and supervise the support staff; oversee the financial activities and reporting; and maintain a master events calendar. Prepare reports and studies as required by the Board. Represent the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center on citizen advisory groups on a consistent basis. Maintain a thorough knowledge of available community cultural arts resources. Participate in meetings, training seminars, events, etc. as appropriate. Drive to distant sites as well as local sites as required. This position requires evening and weekend duties. Develop, recommend and oversee the adequacy and soundness of the organization’s financial structure for the Board’s approval on a monthly basis. Manage a $500,000 annual working budget. Within said budget, negotiate vendor contracts according to laws and regulations and policy guidelines as determined by the board. Oversee planning and implementation of ongoing funding and corporate development. Must establish strategies, including identifying prospects, approach funders through submitting proposals and managing these relationships.
Additional Position Requirements
College degree, preferably in business administration, arts administration or related fields. Prefer a demonstrated success in a similar organization and five years of relevant management experience working with preferably a minimum $500,000 annual budget. Excellent communication skills with a strong ability to communicate to diverse groups, including making presentations to various stakeholders. Ability to operate a personal computer using various types of word processing, spreadsheet, and database software. Experience in managing a variety of contracts, including property contracts and a general knowledge of facilities maintenance is helpful. Experience in arts promotion and event organization, as well as working closely with local and regional media to promote the Lyric’s programming. Proven track record of fundraising through a variety of sources, including grants, corporate and individual donations. Ability to generate enthusiasm within the Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center staff and all major community stakeholders. Ability to analyze and interpret financial reports as well as legal documents.
Salary
Range - $45,000-$55,000 plus benefits and bonus potential.

African American Cultural Center (AACC) Director
Position Description
NC State University seeks an experienced, enthusiastic and visionary leader to fill the position of the Director of its African American Cultural Center. Founded in 1991 and located in the Augustus M. Witherspoon Student Center, the Center’s purpose is to promote learning and awareness of the history, culture and contributions of Africa and people of African descent. This position reports to the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion.
The Center is a 10,000 square foot facility. It includes a 1200 sq. ft. art gallery, a 1200 sq. ft. library, a 200 seat multi-purpose room, an administrative suite, two smaller meeting/lecture rooms, and seven student organization offices. The Director‘s leadership, communication and organizational skills will create the vision and promote the mission of the African American Cultural Center.
The director will oversee development, coordination and implementation of a comprehensive array of educational and cultural programs. Such programs will promote cultural competency as well as an understanding of and appreciation for African Americans throughout the university community.
The Director is responsible for strategic planning, fund raising, fiscal accountability, program development and assessment, and overall management and operation. The Director will supervise and work closely with the AACC Associate Director, who runs the day-to-day operations of the Center, and the AACC Program Coordinator, who develops and implements AACC programs. The Director will be responsible for developing collaborative relationships with the academic units and faculty across campus, and for obtaining external funding through grants or fundraising. The Director will be responsible for establishing public relations strategies to foster attendance of Center activities and programs, for preparing annual reports and reviews of the programs, projects and other activities of the Center, and for other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will possess the ability to plan strategically, an understanding of the issues and dynamics of a large, research extensive university, strong oral and written communication skills, a talent for working well with individuals and groups, and demonstrated knowledge of and appreciation for the African and African American experience. Based on the successful candidate's interest, experience and qualifications, there is the possibility of a faculty appointment to an academic department within the University.
Minimum qualifications
· Expertise in African and African American history and culture
· A doctoral degree in a related discipline and research and teaching experience
· Administrative and supervisory experience in an academic setting
· Cultural programming or higher education programming experience
· Fundraising and grant writing success
· Experience and success developing publicity and public relations
