Position: Director, Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign
Nature of Position: The Director is a 12-month full-time academic professional staff member at the Bruce D. Nesbitt African American Cultural Center (BNAACC), the African American Cultural Center at the University of Illinois and is also an Assistant Dean of Students. The Director is responsible for the overall coordination and implementation of programs and staff at BNAACC, management of facility, fiscal planning and budgeting. The individual must have proven experience in building collaborative partnerships with numerous departments. BNAACC is a unit within the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR) and the Director reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs / Director of OIIR who reports to the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs.
Duties and Responsibilities
In addition to those identified above, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
1. Providing leadership, assistance and support to the BNAACC staff and Advisory Committee in reviewing the mission and goals of BNAACC and creating a Center strategic plan consistent with the OIIR, Student Affairs, and University of Illinois Strategic Plans.
2. Collaborate with other Student Affairs and campus units in the development of services and programs related to African American students and integrating the Center’s educational and cultural activities with those provided by other campus units.
3. Work with centers within OIIR to develop educational programs that foster intentional cross cultural exchanges between students from all cultural backgrounds.
4. Develop and provide initiatives that educate the campus about the African American communities.
5. Hire, train, and provide ongoing supervision and training of professional and student staff members.
6. Foster relationships with local, state, and regional African American community members and organizations.
7. Developing, organizing, and evaluating programs at BNAACC that advance awareness of African American culture, encourage diversity, and educate the greater community as a whole, as well as collaborating with other centers in joint efforts related to diversity more broadly.
8. Participating in Divisional and University-wide African American student recruitment and retention initiatives. This includes working with the Office of Admissions in planning and promoting strategic initiatives that will result in greater numbers of admitted African American students at the university.
9. Developing and promoting African American alumni relations.
10. Promoting development activities, including grant writing and fundraising aimed at creating resources for African American student programs and retention efforts.
11. Representing BNAACC/OIIR on campus-wide standing and ad-hoc committees.
12. Coordinating the production of reports for internal and external units.
13. Performing other duties as assigned by the Associate Vice Chancellor/Director of OIIR.
Minimum Qualifications
Master’s Degree in higher education or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience; Proven successful collaboration and collegial with other departments and units; 5 years professional experience in student affairs, higher education administration, or with community organizations; Professional experience with developing African American student programs and service; Experience supervising professional and student staff members; Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with African American constituencies.
Appointment Terms
This position is a permanent, full-time, 12-month position with a start date of July 16, 2010.

Position: Campus Recreation Associate Director-Facilities, Division of Student Affairs, Colorado State University
Position Announcement
The Campus Recreation Department at Colorado State University offers an exciting leadership opportunity at the Associate Director level. As a member of the of the Campus Recreation Management Team, the Associate Director serves in an administrative leadership position instrumental in department strategic planning and operations that impacts over 27 full time staff, graduate assistants, and approximately 300 student employees. Campus Recreation delivers programs and services in the Student Recreation Center facility, on 30+ acres of adjacent field space, at the Challenge Course featuring high/low rope elements and in two on-campus auxiliary facilities. The Associate Director will be directly involved with preparations for the opening of the state of the art, 175,000 square foot renovated/expanded Student Recreation Center opening in August, 2010. Colorado State is located in Fort Collins, a city of 136,000 – 65 miles north of Denver. The City offers a unique blend of metropolitan advantages and small town friendliness. Located at the western edge of the Great Plains and at the eastern base of the Rocky Mountains, Fort Collins, with its ideal climate, provides easy access to numerous activities. The Associate Director is responsible for daily management of Campus Recreation facilities and services, direct supervision of two full-time State Classified support staff, one full-time Professional Administrative staff and ten indirect staff reports. The position includes administrative and fiscal responsibilities and active participation in department leadership and strategic action planning. This is a 12 month, exempt, Administrative Professional position that reports to the Director of Campus Recreation.
RESPONSIBILITIES
LEADERSHIP: 40% ADMINISTRATION: 30% PROFESSIONAL DUTIES 30% LEADERSHIP
1. Serve as a mentor and role model to staff for professional expectations; cultivate and promote team environment
2. Work with Senior Management to: Design/lead department staff training and development opportunities including safety, diversity, customer service standards, etc. Coordinate department service programs. Coordinate department student training and development: All-Staff Training; Spring Training; Department Recognition; Student Development Fund and Karspeck Fund. Coordinate department Student Employment including hiring policy/procedures; employee classification/wage scale; area/program employee manuals
3. Participate in department, Division of Student Affairs and University committees
4. Facilitate, communicate, problem solve, and resolve issues with internal and external constituents
5. Serve on Campus Recreation Management Team
ADMINISTRATION
1. Budget Management Responsible for area budgets ($1,500,000). Analyze area income and expense reports and counsel staff on budget management. Coordinate annual budget development with area staff
2. Assessment / Reports o Coordinate development of facility use and participant reports. Design, evaluate and oversee implementation of assessment tools for area programs and services. Compile and analyze data, identify trends and concerns, apply to area programs / services. Coordinate compilation, review and edit monthly, semester, and annual reports
3. Area Documents and Materials. Coordinate review of area manuals with area staff o Coordinate review of department manuals relevant to area programs with staff. Develop and/or review area publication/media materials with staff. Review and edit area web site information with staff
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES
1. Direct program management: Custodial; Maintenance; Indoor/Outdoor Department Facilities.
2. Personnel Resource Management: Recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate and mentor three direct and up to ten full-time indirect reports o Conduct individual and team staff meetings
3. Oversight of operational software packages such as RecTrac, EMS, etc.
4. Support/coordinate Student Recreation Center operations: CSU Building Proctor designation; event/program setup & transitions; interior/exterior signage; key management.
5. Facility Management: Determine space allocation within established department priorities; coordinate department indoor/outdoor facility scheduling process; resolve facility use issues/conflicts. Review/adjudicate facility requests. Oversight for facility/program equipment needs and staffing levels o Coordinate shared space scheduling with University Scheduling Office and Athletic Department. Serve as a Campus Recreation facility liaison with Athletics, Conference Services, Health & Exercise Science Department, ROTC and other University partners.
6. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Campus Recreation
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum: Master’s degree. Six years full time professional recreation experience. Four years direct supervision of full-time professional employees. Demonstrated professional experience in staff leadership and student development. Experience with budget management, report writing, fiscal reporting. Demonstrated commitment to multiculturalism and diversity
Preferred: Demonstrated experience with facility operations, emphasis on custodial, maintenance, and outdoor activity spaces. Progressive administrative experience in a university campus recreation program. Experience with strategic planning and project management. Experience with Camps, Conference Services, Athletics, and academic programs. Experience with event planning and space rental agreements/contracts. Experience with membership and point-of-sale data base management software systems o Experience with facility scheduling software systems. Demonstrated organizational and written skills. Demonstrated computer software skills, i.e., Word, Excel, Publisher, data-base management
Level of Autonomy: Decision making about area changes and direction.
Level of Authority: Concurring authority with Director of Campus Recreation; implementing authority assigned Salary: Commensurate with education and experience. The anticipated starting date is no later than July 2010.
